Nexus Young Builders Hackathon

Make something useful with AI.

A school-led build day for young people aged 12–16. Bring a problem worth solving, form a team and create a simple AI prototype you can explain.

The brief

Teams choose what they want to build.

There is no fixed challenge. Pupils can create a first prototype for a useful idea, a school problem, a community need or something that would make everyday life easier.

01Choose

Start with a real problem

Teams choose their own idea. It can be small, practical and unfinished. The point is to make a useful first version.

02Build

Work in a team

Teams can be formed by pupils, or by pupils working with a teacher. Everyone should have a clear role, whether that is research, design, writing, testing or making.

03Show

Explain what it does

At the end, teams show a short demonstration: the problem, the prototype, who it could help and what they would improve next.

A safer way to take part

The school stays involved from start to finish.

  1. 01

    School lead registers interest

Please do not send pupil names, parent contacts or medical information at this stage.

  2. 02

    Agree the arrangements

Nexus and the school confirm supervision, safeguarding contacts, attendance, photo choices, travel and any practical support before places are confirmed.

  3. 03

    Build in the open

Teachers remain responsible for their pupils. Mentors and judges work in visible shared spaces, not in private one-to-one sessions.

School interest

Bring a team, not a list of children.

This is an interest form for a teacher, senior leader or other authorised school contact. It does not reserve a place yet, and it does not ask for pupil data.

For families and schools

Young people should build with confidence, privacy and proper support.

We will publish the final time, venue and programme once arrangements with participating schools are confirmed. Parent or carer consent is handled through each school, not through a public child sign-up form.
